Palermo diary – delightful hosts The Duke & Duchess Di Palma

I have been rather blessed to be introduced to The Duke and Duchess Di Palma, with their fabulous Palazzo and so much history.

The Lanza Tomasi palace, which faces Palermo’s seafront was built in the second half of the 17th century atop the Spanish military casements behind the 16th century city walls… Wow!

Cooking with the Duchess

Anyone attending Nicoletta’s classes are in for a treat!

First up you get a tour of nearby local food markets with the freshest fish and bestest Sicilian local produce…wow, I was suitably impressed both by market and also Nicoletta’s outlook on respect and belonging re food and people.

Nicoletta will only use what is in season and she has a lovely inclusive manner to help you create the most fantastic lunch, whilst you enjoy hands on fun getting lunch ready.

Nicoletta shares her wonderful stories on her ideals on food, her interesting life, the amazing history of her husband’s family and the Palazzo.

Once cooking has been completed all attendees sit down with the Duke and Duchess in their formal dining room, the large table adorned with the Palazzo’s Heirloom centre pieces of crockery and glassware engraved with the family crest.

Whilst you are looking out to sea and enjoying conversation, their staff effortlessly serve the beautiful bounty you have created, all the while topping up your glass with premium family/friends wine… One has to pinch oneself …yes you really are there. I found it hard not to think about the past of this truly special place, its people and the many people it has hosted. If only those walls could talk…

Don’t fret though that you will run out of time for more historical insights, as at the end of this sumptuous feast you will be treated to a tour of the Palazzo with Gioacchino, the Duke. His knowledge of family history and his candid conversation is truly delightful…In his absence the enchanting duchess will entertain you with her take on this amazing family….
